The Italian-speaking canton south of the Alps, with Lugano, Bellinzona and Locarno, plus Italian-speaking valleys of Graubünden.
Also called: Ticino, Tessin, Svizzera italiana
Ticino is the smallest of the three large language regions, but with a strong economy around Lugano (finance, trading, tourism). People search in Italian and expect Swiss details: CHF, Swiss addresses and «.ch» domains.
Because there are fewer Swiss-Italian pages, competition for many keywords is lower than in the German- or French-speaking part.
Why Ticino matters in Switzerland
Results from Italy often fill the gaps in Swiss-Italian searches. A well-made it-CH page can win positions quickly against them.
Our tip
If Ticino is part of your plan, do not reuse a page for Italy – write for Lugano, not for Milan.
